David Copperfield

Filed under: random — Jana @ 12:10 pm

This is the first chance I’ve gotten to tell my David Copperfield story with the chaos of super bowl sunday and all so…

On Thursday Lee took off work so we could go to the David Copperfield magic show in palm springs. As we got out of the car Lee realized he was parked in a permit zone so as he was moving the car, I waited out front with Carmen. A news van pulls up to us and a reporter hops out and asks me if she can interview me about some new bill that is trying to be passed about making it possible for parents to pay for their children’s college tuition when they are still young. I said it sounded like a good idea, so she asked if she could put me on camera saying it. I said no (for a number of reasons: too shy, I had a little cold and didn’t really get ready that day, etc.) but just then Lee walks up and pushes me into it. and before I know it I am being interviewed on camera. Which I am still bugged about because I was so extremely nervous I am almost positive I sounded like a complete idiot. I was so flustered I had no idea what I was talking about.

Anyway we met our friends Clint and Niki and their kids and went into the show. I got called up on stage to be one of David’s little helpers and he made me hold a big black scorpion. Then I got to kiss him.

The show itself was just average. You can tell he’s getting old and still just doing these shows for the money. And he tried to make it all touching with some fake story about reuniting a father with his long lost daughter *cue story book music*. It reminded me of the Shamu show at sea world . I don’t know… do people fall for that stuff anymore or am I just a hollow feeling-less shell of a human? Anyway I guess I just go for the big flashy tricks. There were a few amazing moments, and maybe if he hadn’t spent half the show doing montages of how famous he is in pop culture, it would have been pretty good.

It was a fun day none the less and Carmen only dumped one baggie full of graham crackers out in the theater so Bonus!

  1. He was a little self obsessed wasn’t he? It was fun though, to get out, thanks again for inviting us. I’ll see you tonight, I don’t have a project, but I’m sure I’ll think of something.

  2. That is so how I would describe you – “a hollow feeling-less shell of a human”.

That sounds like an awesome day – you’re famous! David Copperfield’s assistant/lover and political expert.

  3. You just proved Murphy’s Law. That one time you don’t get ready will be the time you run into your ex, your last ward’s YW show up at your doorstep, you’re interviewed for tv, designated as the famous aging magician’s assistant… you get the picture.
