Road Trip Heaven

Filed under: carmen, family, knitting, me — Jana @ 8:54 pm

I should never ever complain, I have seriously learned my lesson. (ok maybe not, but I am going to really try not to… from now on.)  If I ever said anything about a bad road trip in the past I take it back, This one takes the cake.  (which by me saying this, of course, curses me in the future)

Nonetheless I can’t leave this story untold.  I am currently writing this post on Lee’s lap top while I sit in a walmart parking lot in cedar city, while my husband is off borrowing some tool to change the tire of the terror escalade we are driving to utah for Lee’s boss.

We got a few hours into this road trip and Carmen yakked all over herself. (Curse you Isabelle!!! kidding Wendy)  so we stopped on the side of the road in the middle of the desert and stripped all her clothes of and used an entire package of wet wipes to clean out the car.  When we got in the car the outside temp reading said 140 degrees,  I think it was inacurate ;), but it was pretty hot. (it went down to 110 as soon as we started moving again)

Crisis over keep on going…That’s got to be the worst of it right?  Yeah… right.

Being that this car is an escalade, be it 5 years old you would think it would still be super nice right?  A few hours later it starts shaking we think oh it’s gotta be the road combined with the 15 foot traier we are pulling, just keep going.

Three hours later we are vibrating so much that our voices are shaking and we decide to check it out.  (you know how your hands get itchy when you are riding a 4 wheeler from the vibration, picture that on our whole bodies)  We think that one of the tires is lopsided so we pulled behind the walmart to change tire.

Wrong tool.

Go into walmart to buy tool.

Carmen’s diaper leaks onto pants.

Change clothes behind the walmart (hidden by the car of course).

 New tool…still the wrong tool.

Carmen barfs all over car…again.

Go back into walmart to by Car cleaner.

Borrow tool from friendly walmart shopper.

It works!

Jack is broken.

That is where we are at right now.

 Lord beer me strength.

Goose frabaaah.

I need to go to my happy place.   Yes…knitting, think about knitting.

Here is the picture of the stuff that went into the Dish Rag Tag box I sent to Anita, now that I know she’s gotten it already.

Since my mail man doesn’t come till 3:30 in the afternoon anyway, and there was no way I was going to be able to knit and send by 5:00pm,  I knitted a little more complicated dishrag and fancied it up with crochet edges and loop.   I also sent her some handmade stitch markers and my favorite gum, orbit sweet mint.  I wanted to send something sweet but also make sure it didn’t melt into a greesy puddle at the bottom of the box, It is summer after all.

Anyway, I do feel better now and Lee went into walmart again to buy another jack (man, walmart has everything) so pray for us that everything else works from here on out.  This is the kind of stuff that builds charater right?  And since I live a pretty charmed life for the most part, I guess everyone has to pay their dues sometime.

  3. DUDE, we cannot be held responsible! JK.

Sorry to hear about the barf, the bad trip, and anything else that may come your way with that silly Escalade. I wish you could have taken yours!

Have fun, when you are in Utah, yell really loud, “Hi Wendy’s Mom” and maybe she’ll hear you.

  5. Mmmmm that’s my favorite gum too! Sorry your trip blows. Sick babies are no fun. Brenden just got over the flu and Miles is getting over croop. (don’t worry, we’re not coming to the reunion if it isn’t gone) Why are you on your way to Utah? Are you going to be able to come staight to the reunion from there? Not that you want to be in that vehicle that long.

  8. Ugh. I’ve been blessed to never experience the barf-in-car moment, (knock on wood) but I can only imagine the misery. Lee better lobby for some serious compensation for this “favor” he’s performing for mark! :) We miss you!!

  10. ouch… I guess when it rains it pours. Although I guess you could be grateful that it’s really not pouring… and thank the Lord for Walmart. I know i do. Hopefully by now you are stuffing yourself with Utah food and feeling all better.
