Fires

Filed under: family, random — Jana @ 3:34 pm

I almost feel obligated to post about these fires we’ve been having here in California. Even though it’s all we’ve heard about for the past few days.  I guess there are quite a few of you who live out of state and may like to know what’s going on. Although we seem to be in a safe little pocket, many of our friends and their families have been effected by the fires.  Mostly with evacuations. Luckily most of the news I have heard is that most of the people’s houses, that we know, were spared.  Although there were many close calls.  Lee’s cousin and his fiance’s family stayed with us durring the evacuation but their house ened up being ok.  The only thing that burned were some palm trees behind their house. The smoke is the only thing we are dealing with now.  A ton of the smoke seems to have settled right here in our neighborhood (although I’m sure it’s like this most everywhere at the moment).  The air quality is so poor that the kids cant go outside to play.  Which is rough day after day for little energy packed kids.  At least we have not been directly effected by the fires.  We really are blessed.Lee’s brother and sister’s trip to California  for the BYU game got canceled… but with all the smoke I wouldn’t exactally call this place an ideal vacation destination.  I feel bad for Lee because he was really looking forward to them coming, but hey less cleaning for me for the moment.

  1. Yeah, my parents flew in from Utah this week to go to the BYU game too. We all had tickets, I had a babysitter lined up and everything. Bit of a bummer. Instead we all rotated between almost evacuated houses with nowhere to go and nothing to do. Oh and now the rescheduled night fore the game is the same night as Jaime Harris’ big bday party she’s been planning. December 1st. Oh well, maybe something will change before then. Argh.

  2. I am glad to hear that you guys are safe. Fires are scary and it is hard to think of losing everything in something like that. Thanks for keeping us updated!

  3. I am glad to hear that you are safe. Once Wendy told me about the fires – I couldn’t stop watching. It really makes you take a 2nd look at what items you have or should have fire-proofed.
