Happy Halloween

Me and Carmen decided to carve a jack-o-lantern.

She actually did help with all the gooey stuff. She also passed the time by reinserting the pieces of pumpkin back in the slots I cut out. And Tiger helped by eating the chunks of pumpkin he could get a hold of.

After we were all finished carving I told her to go sit by the pumpkin so that I could get a picture of her with it. This is what she thought that meant…

She had a lot of fun helping me carve our “puh-kin”.

When the haunting hour was about to begin we dressed Carmen up in her witch costume.

And we got her all ready to go trick or treating. I didn’t think Carmen was going to do very well because she wouldn’t take a nap and toddlers don’t usually do that well with costumes, so I wasn’t very hopeful. I thought maybe she would last 5 houses and then the costume would all get ripped off and we would be carrying her home in a teary fit… Boy was I wrong.

After she went to her very first house and got to see what this whole Halloween thing was about, she was all for it. She went to just about every house that all of her older friends went to. She loved it! She was very friendly to everyone saying “thankyouwelcome” and “bye-bye” to almost every person handing out candy. And even when her bucket was getting so full of candy and heavy she still did not want to stop. She never wanted us to hold it for her. She was not about to give up all her loot. And she even left her hat on and carried her little wand the whole time. After we had gone so long that my arms were getting tired from carrying her between houses, we went to Phil and Autumn’s house to to pig out on all the candy.

It was really fun for me because this is pretty much the first holiday I’ve had with my own child, where she actually kind of understood what was going on. It is so fun to see these holidays through the eyes of a kid again. You forget when you turn into a boring old adult…Then you have kids and it’s exciting again.

  1. Carmen looks so cute!! It was fun to see the one tiny little trick-or-treater come to our apartment, he had to have been only 18months or maybe a little younger. It was still really cute though. Hope all is going well. Are you feeling any better?

  2. The pictures are so cute. I think Carmen’s witch costume is probably the cutest I have seen for little girls. Great job with the pumpkin!

  6. Totally! I was thinking the same thing yesterday. We had such a great Halloween this year. Both boys were really into it and SO excited to get into their costumes. I was thinking… this is why people have kids. You get to be a kid again with them. I love the holidays. I’m counting the days till I can get my Christmas tree down…

  9. I am so festive. I’m sure my kids will get sick of me dressing them up all the time. I’m the type of geek that always dresses up for holidays in festive colors and my kids will probably gain the benefits whether they want to or not. ha ha. Carmen makes a cute witch! I love the pictures of her with the pumpkin.
