Shave Ice

Filed under: family, food, me — Jana @ 8:40 pm

We’re Back!

Ok, Since Vacation posts are FOREVER long, and I am too tired to do any more tonight, I will leave you with my very favorite part of our trip to Hawaii.

Matsumoto’s Shave Ice

Seriously, It was just about the best thing I’ve ever tasted.

We originally went to the north shore so my husband could surf, but after tasting this, we went back 2 more times. Oh and did I mention the north shore is an hour away from Waikiki , where we stayed with our friends? I didn’t care if it wasn’t as sunny on the north shore as it is in Waikiki, as long as I could get some of that delicious shizz. The texture is like snow, and at the bottom of your little fruity treat…Ice cream. I would swim back to Hawaii for this stuff, it was soooooo tasty. All the flavors I tasted were really good , but my favorite was creamsicle.

Even Carmie loved it, and she doesn’t usually like ice cream because it’s too cold.

  1. Yayyy! I didn’t realize you’d be back for sewing night, you ARE coming to sewing night, right? I guess it’s cool if you don’t, I’ll try not to fling myself off a bridge or anything.

Yes, the shave ice is worth the trip to Hawaii, isn’t it? Greg and I had it every day we were there, more than once some days. That sounded dirty, but it’s late and I don’t feel like rephrasing.

  2. I don’t get on line very much so I’ve been back reading your blog and enjoying it all! I miss you. It was so fun to glimpse into your lives this morning. Welcome back!

  3. We actually have that in Utah and ironically, it is called Hawaiian Ice. They are like like snow shacks in the summer, but have tons of flavor shaved ice with ice cream in the bottom. I think that because we have so many Polys in Utah – it must have caught on. You should come visit this summer to get one!

  4. Sounds like you had fun. I’ll have to check out the Hawaiian Ice here in Utah that Misty commented about. We love shaved ice with ice cream in the bottom. YUMMY!!

  5. I don’t know if this is good news or bad but there is a place in Garden Grove that sells it that way (with the ice cream at the bottom). When Steve worked there they would go ALL the time and he was always telling me how good it was and how even on rainy days there was a line to get the stuff. Maybe a trip to OC is in our future?
