Token annual fair post

Filed under: me — Jana @ 3:24 pm

So before we went to Utah we hit up the San Diego county fair.

Lee took Carmen on the big slide.

I just wish I could zoom in enough for you to see the look of sheer terror on her face.

We made a major break through this year. She rode the ponies!

That doesn’t sound like a huge feat for the average child, but the last time I tried to put her on one of those ferocious beasts, she clung to me like nobody’s business. So for me this was Super exciting. Notice the horse’s name is “Shorty”… I appreciated that, although it had me singing “hit it shawty, hit it shawty” all day… which is not my favorite song.

It’s so funny how much your life changes as a parent. Things like her overcoming her fear of animals just makes me so proud. I guess when you are a professional diaper changer, things like this are really thrilling. Speaking of diapers, while I was changing Carmen’s today, I was holding her feet up and she got really tense, so I said to her “Don’t flex”, so I could finish. Her reply to that was “ok, but I’m not flex, I’m Camen”. She is so funny, and so smart.
Anyway the rest of the time at the fair was spent eating the most unhealthy food on earth. You rationalize, because it’s once a year… and where else can you find deep fried twinkies, or chicken sandwiches with krispy kreme donut buns? Well ok, so we didn’t try those, but the stuff we did eat was equally loaded with greezy goodness. And as I walked around the fair holding my aching gut, I heard other comments from my fellow fair goers around me chiming “I don’t feel so good”, and when every sign in sight is proclaiming “Totally FRIED” Like that’s a good thing, what do you expect?

It was pretty fun though, can’t wait to go and do it again again next year. :)

  1. Wow! That slide looks like fun, at least for Lee. Carmen is beautiful, she makes a agreat model for all you cute hair designs. How are you? Hope you don’t mind I came to check out your latest blog. And see your cute family.

  2. Carmen is so cute and funny! I remember that big slide at the Utah fair when I was growing up… I didn’t care for it much either.

  4. Holy crap! Carmen’s “I’m not flex, I’m Carmen,” had me cracking up! She’s hilarious! I’m definitely a lover of fair food! Elephant ears are the best!

  5. Kids do the funniest things. Tristan rode the pony this year too, but same for him with last year. When you tell about Carmen, I realize how many similarities she has with Tristan – I guess it’s the age!

  10. Truth be told, I couldn’t give you a Blog Award because my LAME sister already gave you one. But, you definitely would have been first on my list. Most importantly for making me start one of these crazy things, 2nd for being such a great friend & 3rd for being so DAMN witty – you kill me!

  13. Audrey rode the pony at a pumpkin patch last year and that is all she talks about. That pic of Carmen with the horse is cute. She looks like she is enjoying herself.

  14. […] They HAD to ride the ponies… it was one of the biggest deals of the day.  Carmen got to ride Shorty (whatta shawty?) AGAIN this year… Need proof?  I’m sure you do.  I wrote about it in last years post. […]
