We went up to Island park after christmas for Lee’s family Reunion.  Turns out… it’s cold up there.  I have been in cold before, I mean, I grew up in Utah; but I have never experienced anything like this.  It snowed a ton while we were there, there was 5 feet of fresh powder everywhere.

It started out around 20 degrees when we got there, but got colder by the day.  Most days it sat at 1 degree.  When we left it was -9 degrees.

This is the front of the cabin.  It’s hard to see from this picture  but the roof had this huge layer of snow hanging over the edge.  I am amazed it never fell but if it had, I would have felt really bad for whomever was standing underneath.

Holy crap it was cold.  You absolutely couldn’t step outside unless you were all suited up.  It was just too painful.  Luckily we brought plenty of cold weather gear, and we had a blast.  My little mose looked like a marshmallow man.

Lee, of course, rented a snowmobile and drove like a crazy person, but turns out he is really talented on a snow machine and he didn’t do any damage.  Apparently he floats around the powder like he’s dancing.  Moseley actually loved tooling around with his daddy outside, and would only come in if he was frozen to the bone.  He would get so mad when I would take him off the snow mobile.

The guys took us over to a sled hill and shuttled the kids up the hill after they would sled down, Lee only had a one person snow machine, but that didn’t stop him from piling the kids on 3 deep.

You just don’t get to see stuff like that in california, and it was super beautiful at sunset riding on the back of Lee’s snowmobile through meadows of flawless powdery snow.  If I would have been able to feel my toes, and wasn’t scared of dying, I would have been in heaven. :)

  2. Apparently cold also makes women’s hair darker and straighter?! I guess i haven’t seen you in a while. Looks great.

And Lee, really? With the powder blue sunglasses? Bro… that’s definitely pushing it.

Looks like fun. I’ve never even heard of Island Park but the name is deceptive. It sounds tropical.

    • Umm, yeah Ryan, I was sitting in the nursery on Sunday when you walked in with the lost and found toys. I guess you didn’t realize it was me?

And nothing you could say about Lee’s blue sunglasses could ever make him stop wearing them… He owns a pair of pink golf shoes for pete’s sake.

      • Holy Crap, I totally didn’t realize it was you. That’s hilarious. It’s either a testament to how different you look or how stupid I am (likely the latter)

  6. Isn’t Island Park awesome?? I worked at a place there called ‘The Pines’ in the summers to pay for college. Such a unique vibe and yes, absolutely frigid in the winter.
